Michael B. Jordan’s Superman project Val-Zod gains writers Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters

October 27, 2021 by Ricky Church

Michael B. Jordan’s Superman project has now gained writers and an official title. According to Deadline, Val-Zod will be a limited series on HBO Max with Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters writing the series.

The character Val-Zod, created by Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott, is a different version of Superman within the DC multiverse of Earth-2. Much like Kal-El, Val-Zod was born on Krypton and his parents were executed by the Kryptonian council. He was later rescued among other orphans by Joe-El and Lara from Krypton’s destruction and sent to Earth. His Kryptonian parents didn’t believe in violence and he adopted their pacifist philosophy. After Earth-2’s original Superman died in a fight against an Apokolips invasion, Val-Zod eventually became the new Superman and helped fight off more of Apokolips’ forces.

Metayer and Peters recently wrote the seventh film in Paramount’s Transformers franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, as well as Amazon’s Nola with Sam Raimi directing. The pair apparently had an “unexpected take” on Val-Zod’s origin which got them the writing job.

Jordan is executive producing the series with Elizabeth Raposo of Outliet Society. It is unknown whether Jordan will also star as Val-Zod or any other role in the series. His upcoming projects include reprising his role as Adonis Creed in Creed III, which he will also be directing, and Denzel Washington’s A Journal for Jordan.
