Daniel Dae Kim joins Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender

November 4, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Daniel Dae Kim will turn up the heat in his next role as Kim will play the Fire Lord Ozai in the new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender from Netflix.

Reports note that Kim’s Fire Lord Ozai is “the ruthlessly driven leader of the Fire Nation who demands that everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teenage son, Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu). Ozai’s drive to conquer and unite the world under firebender rule is a family burden — he believes that it’s his destiny to finish a war started by his ancestors.”

Daniel Dae Kim and Dallas Liu will be joined in the cast of the series by the previously announced Jordon Cormier, who plays Aang; Kiawentiio, who takes on the role of Katara; and Ian Ousley, who rounds out the cast as Sokka.

This new series isn’t the first time Daniel Dae Kim has crossed paths with the Airbender franchise. In 2006, he voiced General Fong in an episode of the Nickelodeon animated series; he later returned to the role in the 2007 video game. Later, he’d voice Hiroshi Sato on The Legend of Korra, a spinoff series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Albert Kim serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on the series. Michael Goi, Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani, and Jet Wilkinson are directing.
