Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s buddy cop movie heading to MGM

November 13, 2021 by Ricky Church

Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s untitled buddy cop film looks like it will be heading to MGM according to Deadline. The studio won the auction for the project after four studios bid for it as the pair pitched it to several prospective buyers.

It all began when Bautista playfully tweeted the idea a couple months ago, saying “Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.” After that, Momoa and Bautista developed the idea with See writer Jonathan Tropper penning the buddy cop script. As of right now, neither Deadpool 2 director David Leitch or any other filmmakers are attached.

The pitch will see Momoa and Bautista “play brothers in a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy cop comedy likely to shoot in Hawaii.” The film likely won’t begin production until 2023 due to both Momoa and Bautista’s busy schedules. Momoa is currently filming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom while Bautista will soon be filming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well as the recently announced Dune Part Two, the latter of which will begin production next year.

This buddy cop film won’t be the first time Momoa and Bautista have worked together as the pair star in the Apple TV+ series See. They also starred in Dune, but unlike See they did not share any screen time with each other.
