Game of Thrones prequel The Tales of Dunk & Egg sets writer

December 5, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Back in January of this year it was announced that HBO is in development on The Tales of Dunk & Egg, an adaptation of Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin’s novellas which would serve as another potential spinoff from the hit fantasy series.

Well, almost a year on, it has been announced that the cable network has tapped Steve Conrad (Perpetual Grace, LTD) to serve as writer and producer on the prequel, which takes place some 90 years prior to Game of Thrones and follows the adventures of the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, the future King Aegon V Targaryen.

Dunk & Egg is one of several Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works at HBO, the first of which, House of the Dragon, is slated to premiere on HBO at some point in 2022 [check out the first trailer here]. The network also previously produced a pilot for an untitled prequel spinoff – referred to as The Long Night – but opted against moving ahead despite pumping $30 million into the project.
