Deborah Chow and Kathleen Kennedy talk further seasons of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

June 23, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

It’s fair to say that the force has been strong with Ewan McGregor’s return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and now that the excellent finale has aired to what was originally conceived as a ‘Limited Series’, director Deborah Chow and Lucasfilm head-honcho Kathleen Kennedy have been talking about whether we’ll get to see more of Old Ben on the small-screen.

Speaking to ET online, Chow, who directed all six-episodes of the Disney+ show discussed the origins of Obi-Wan, saying “For this one, we really did conceive it to be a limited series. It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So, we weren’t thinking past that.”

Remember Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally meant to be a movie, but following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm decided to alter the landscape of their Star Wars output, and it was feared that we would never get to see McGregor reprise his role.

However, the show’s success has led Ewan McGregor to effuse about the possibility of donning the robes again, but Chow said on any future missions for Obi-Wan that “I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”

They were sentiments echoed by Kathleen Kennedy, although she was slightly more positive about future instalments, saying “Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series, but I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us,” Adding “And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”
