Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 will feature crossover with Lower Decks

July 24, 2022 by Ricky Church

Paramount announced some unexpected news for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ second season at San Diego Comic-Con. During the show’s segment on the Star Trek panel, Star Trek: Lower Decks stars Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid crashed the panel to reveal Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks will crossover in the upcoming season.

The episode will be a live-action/animation hybrid with Newsome and Quaid reportedly portraying their characters in live-action. The episode will be directed by Star Trek: The Next Generation alum Jonathan Frakes, who has directed several episodes of various Star Trek series as well as two of the TNG feature films. Frakes has also made guest appearances in Lower Decks and will reprise his role of Will Riker in the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard.

The second season of Strange New Worlds will see some other familiar faces as Paul Wesley will star as James Kirk, the future captain of the Enterprise. Wesley appeared as Kirk in the first season finale in an alternate timeline and the second season will see him in his pre-Enterprise days as Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike is still captain of the famous starship.
