Gravity Rush video game adaptation in the works at PlayStation Productions

Now that studios have established that there is plenty of “insert coin” potential to be had from videogame adaptations, PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions have pressed play on an big-screen adaptation of action-adventure game Gravity Rush.

According to Deadline Anna Mastro (Netflix’s Echoes) has been hired to direct, and she will work from a script written by Emily Jerome (Blacklist script Panopticon).

Gravity Rush is a 2012 open world game developed by Japan Studio’s Project Siren and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The story focuses on an amnesiac named Kat, who wakes up in a floating city around a structure called the World Pillar. Accompanied by a mysterious cat named Dusty, who has the ability to manipulate how gravity affects Kat, she must use her new powers to defend this new world from gravity storms, and the mysterious race of monsters known as the Nevi.

Following Uncharted‘s critic-proof box-office performance of $400M worldwide, studios have been keen to rummage through videogame IPs to try and find something to adapt for the big-screen. PlayStation Productions has just announced a Days Gone movie starring Outlander’s Sam Heughan, and is also currently developing a God of War TV series for Amazon Prime.
