The Man Who Fell to Earth won’t be returning for a second season

October 11, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Chiwetel Ejiofor’s The Man Who Fell to Earth won’t be returning to Showtime for a second season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter sources say that the decision not to renew the series for a second season came because execs were ‘very pleased with the show’s creative and felt the season came to a natural and fitting conclusion’.

Originally intended to be a limited series, the story reports that The Man Who Fell to Earth‘s showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet were working to this remit but decided to reshape their plans halfway through making the first series. Think again.

A Showtime spokesperson said “Our thanks to the extraordinary Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, John Hlavin and Sarah Timberman who did a great job of turning the David Bowie film into such a resonant tale for our times. And kudos to a wondrous cast led by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Naomie Harris and Bill Nighy for bringing it to life. Alex and Jenny originally intended The Man Who Fell To Earth to be a close-ended story. While we flirted with the idea of expanding it into a second season, we all ultimately decided to embrace it as a one season story well told.”

A reimagining/sequel to Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel of the same name, the series followed Faraday (Chiwetel Ejiofor), an alien visitor to Earth who is forced to confront his own past to determine the fate of humanity.

So that’s that then, The Man Who Fell to Earth has landed with a bump and is no more. Let us know what you think of this news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
