John Wick spinoff The Continental to stream internationally on Prime Video

November 5, 2022 by Gary Collinson

The John Wick franchise is set to expand beyond the big screen in 2023 with the launch of the spinoff prequel series The Continental, and Amazon has announced that it has acquired the international streaming rights for the Lionsgate Television production.

“The John Wick films have created one of the most immersive, detailed and enjoyable universes we’ve seen on screen in the last decade,” said Chris Mansolillo, Director of Content Acquisition at Prime Video. “We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, offering viewers an insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”

A three-episode limited series, The Continental stars Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant) as a young Winston Scott, played in the John Wick films by Ian McShane, and follows him “through the underworld of ‘70’s New York, where he will battle demons from his past as he attempts to seize control of the iconic hotel – a hotel that serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.”

Featuring alongside Woodell in the cast of the series are Hubert Point-Du Jour (The Good Lord Bird) as Miles, Jessica Allain (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Lou, Mishel Prada (Fear the Walking Dead) as KD, Nhung Kate (The Housemaid) as Yen, Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon) as Cormac, Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom) as Frankie, Peter Greene (Training Day), Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll), Ayomide Adegun as Charon, Katie McGrath (Supergirl) as The Adjudicator, Ray McKinnon (Rectify) as Jenkins, Adam Shapiro (Never Have I Ever), Mark Musashi (Fear of the Walking Dead) as Hansel and Marina Mazepa (Malignant) as Gretel.

The Continental will premiere in 2023 and consists of three 90-minute episodes, airing over consecutive nights. Amazon will handle international distribution, with Peacock airing the series in the United States.
