Wednesday showrunners tease more Addams Family in potential second season

November 28, 2022 by EJ Moreno

The kooky and spooky new Addams Family made quite the impression following their appearance on Netflix’s Wednesday.

As the spin-off series didn’t focus on the whole group, the characters Gomez and Morticia were barely supporting roles, but things could change in a potential season two.

Wednesday showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar spoke to TV Line about the series. They teased that upcoming seasons would feature more of the family, especially the new fan-favorite Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia. They tell TV Line that we will dive more into those characters while also bringing them all together a bit more as well.

“We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters, and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” says Millar. “Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”

Millar adds while the series will always be about Wednesday, they “definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season.”

The series is off to a strong start as we see Tim Burton in rare form and a star-making performance for Jenna Ortega. The series currently sits at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, and you can check out our review for the series here.

At the time of writing, Wednesday is yet to be confirmed for a second season from Netflix.

The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester alongside a cast that also includes Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.

Wednesday is streaming now on Netflix.
