Dwayne Johnson reveals Warner Bros. were “inexplicably and inexcusably” against bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman

December 2, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

To celebrate Black Adam‘s position as number one digital movie in the download charts (you can check out the first 10 minutes here), Dwayne Johnson has released a thank you video in which he talks up the fact that the DC blockbuster is approaching $400 million at the worldwide box-office, despite wanting more from the international numbers, as well as revealing that Warner Bros. were “inexplicably and inexcusably” against bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman.

In the clip, which you can watch below, Johnson says that they were intent on bringing back “the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe”, adding “And you guys know who I’m talking about. Of course, that is Superman, and that’s Henry Cavill, and at the end of the day, the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably. But we weren’t going to take no for an answer. Myself, my Seven Bucks co-founder and chairwoman, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, our Seven Bucks president. This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back. And years of strategic conversations, and we were not gonna take no for an answer.”

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) and sees Dwayne Johnson starring alongside Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael, Bodhi Sabongui as Amon, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Henry Cavill as Superman.

Black Adams is currently playing in cinemas around the world, and also available on demand.
