Jon Favreau reveals The Mandalorian season 4 has already been written, teases “one full story” across multiple Star Wars series

February 21, 2023 by Ricky Church

It’s only a little over a week until the return of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian for its third season, but producer Jon Favreau has revealed the future is set as he has already written the fourth season, teasing “one full story” told across the various Star Wars series that he and his producing partner Dave Filoni have been developing which spins out of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) as he travels the galaxy and protects his foundling Grogu, a young Force-adept alien that is of the same race as the deceased Jedi master Yoda. The third season will see him return to Mandalore, the home planet of Mandalorians that has long been ravaged by the Empire.

Favreau and Filoni have been leading most of the Star Wars live-action content, with the exception of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor. After the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, they developed The Book of Boba Fett and are in the midst of production on Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew.

In an interview with French outlet BFMTV, Favreau was asked about the fourth season and said “Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully-formed story. So we had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and then slowly you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production. Because all of it has to feel like a continuation of the one full story. And then he’s doing Ahsoka, which I’m producing with him, but he’s the writer/showrunner on that. And so to understand what’s happening on other shows or even Skeleton Crew … all take place in the same Star Wars time period. So there’s a lot more things that we have to keep in mind and stuff that we’ve built up to from previous seasons of The Mandalorian, as well.”

Are you happy that the fourth season of Mandalorian has already been written and could be in production sooner? What do you think about Favreau and Filoni connecting so many shows together? Let us know on our social channels at @flickeringmyth…

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

The Mandalorian season 3 will see Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin joined by Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), Paz Vizsla (Jon Favreau), Omid Abtahi (Dr. Pershing) and Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), along with Christopher Lloyd and Tim Meadows.

The third season of The Mandalorian launches on Disney+ on March 1st 2023.
