Succession to end with upcoming fourth season

February 25, 2023 by Ricky Church

When the fourth season of HBO’s hit drama series Succession premieres next month, it will be the beginning of the end as creator and showrunner Jesse Armstrong has revealed the series will conclude with the forthcoming season.

Succession follows Brian Cox’s Logan Roy and his family which controls one of the most powerful media and entertainment empires in the world as the family members fight each other for more power and control within both the business and their family.

Armstrong revealed the news in an interview with The New Yorker, saying “I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started the writing of season four, in about November, December, 2021, and I sort of said, ‘Look, I think this maybe should be it, but what do you think?’ And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons. Or we could go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different, and be a more rangy, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.”

How do you feel about Succession ending with the fourth season? Do you think it’s time for the conclusion or wanted to see more? Let us know on our social channels at @flickeringmyth…

In season four, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.

Succession stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, J. Smith-Cameron, Peter Friedman, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Dagmara Domińczyk, Arian Moayed, Scott Nicholson, Zoë Winters, Annabelle Dexter- Jones, Juliana Canfield, Jeannie Berlin, Alexander Skarsgard, Cherry Jones, Hope Davis, Justin Kirk, and Stephen Root.

Succession season 4 premieres on March 26th on HBO Max.
