Faces of Death remake casts Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery

March 16, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Extreme horror fans know all about the iceberg of messed-up films. We start with things like Hostel and end up at iconic cult classics like Faces of Death. A new generation will experience Faces Of Death as Legendary prepares for a twisted remaining.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira and Stranger Things‘ Dacre Montgomery will star in the update. Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber are writing and directing, respectively.

The filmmaking team is behind the 2018 internet horror film Cam and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, the upcoming project from the duo. “Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping-off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online,” said Mazzei and Goldhaber in a statement.

The original Faces of Death was released theatrically in 1978 but exploded just as home video became a thing. The film followed a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage found from around the world. The controversial movie featured iconic scenes that were faked for the film, but it did feature some pre-existing video footage of actual deaths or the aftermath of a death.

Ferreira is best known for her time on Euphoria, playing high schooler Kat Hernandez in the series’ first two seasons. She was also featured in HBO’s Unpregnant and the 2022 Jordan Peele horror movie, Nope. Montgomery broke into Hollywood with 2017’s Power Rangers before playing Billy Hargrove, the step-brother to Sadie Sink’s character Max Mayfield in Stranger Things.

THR reports, “the filmmakers hope to recreate the madness via a 21st-century lens.”
