Scorsese and DiCaprio’s Devil in the White City no longer happening at Hulu

March 7, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s decade in the making drama Devil in the White City is no longer in development at Hulu.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Disney-backed streaming service weren’t moving forward with the series, which had Captain Fantastic‘s Matt Ross set to replace Tár director Todd Field, and Jude Law in talks to step in as leading man following the departure of Keanu Reeves. The Bear star Jeremy Allen White had also been in discussions to star. All three remain attached to the project, even though it no longer has a home.

An adaptation of Erik Larson’s book, the Devil in the White City tells the interconnecting stories of two men whose fates were forever linked by The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Daniel H. Burnham is a brilliant architect looking to make his mark on the world, while Henry H. Holmes is a serial killer who operated in ‘The Murder Castle’, a building he designed specifically for the torture and murder of young women.

Fans of the Scorsese and DiCaprio double-act needn’t be too upset about the cancellation of Devil in the White City, because it is also reported that Producers ABC Signature plan to shop it elsewhere, plus you have their eagerly-anticipated Apple Studios feature film Killers of the Flower Moon set to debut later this year.
