Cancelled Grant Gustin cameo in The Flash confirmed by director Andy Muschietti

April 30, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Earlier this month, we reported on Grant Gustin’s comments concerning an appearance in the upcoming film version of The Flash. He shut down the rumors, but it seems like he wasn’t being entirely truthful.

It’s now confirmed that Grant Gustin was set to have a brief cameo in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. Nerdist reports that director Andy Muschietti broke down the juice details concerning cameos from the upcoming event film during a special event.

Sitting down for a Q&A with Grae Drake, Muscheitti confirmed that Gustin was set to feature but didn’t make what has been dubbed the “not quite the final cut of the film.”

“Of course, as I said before, the list of cameos…was huge. So obviously, we played with the idea of including DC characters from TV, but we just had to pick,” says Muscheitti. Reports say Muschietti was “very complimentary about The Flash TV series.”

The other cameos that didn’t make this version of the film include Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman, Burgess Meredith’s Penguin & Cesar Romero’s Joker from the Batman TV series, and Marlon Brando’s Jor-El from 1978’s Superman.

With that stacked line-up of characters that didn’t make the cut, fans are even more excited to see what Muschietti had included. Rumors have swirled about everything from George Clooney to Nicolas Cage making appearances, but most fans have been tight-lipped about the final cut.

We shall see what this star-studded DC event holds for us this June.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).

The Flash is set for release on June 16th 2023.
