The Flash’s Andy Muschietti set to direct Batman: The Brave and The Bold

June 5, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Andy Muschietti is preparing to enter Gotham as The Flash director will soon close his deal to direct James Gunn/DC Studios’ Batman project.

Industry scoop site One Take News dropped the bombshell late Sunday evening that Muschietti will direct Batman: The Brave and The Bold. For reference, OTN often breaks stories like Andy Samberg being cast in Across The Spider-Verse and Temuera Morrison returning in Ahsoka.

Fresh off The Flash, which has set the internet abuzz with its fan reactions and leaked cameos, Andy Muschietti is looking to stay in the DC family and get the chance to direct his third version of the Caped Crusader. During the multiverse-filled movie, we’ll see Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s take on the iconic DC hero; Muschietti will obviously have more than enough practice by the time he gets his Batman story.

This story comes not too long after the filmmaker all but confirmed the news. During an interview on The Flash‘s promotional tour, Josh K. Elliot asked Muschietti which version of Batman he’d like to try if he could helm this project. The filmmaker made fans go notes with his not-so-coy: “I can’t speak to that… yet.”

Little is known about The Brave and The Bold, but the project will reportedly follow Batman and his latest Robin, his polarizing son Damien Wayne. We have not seen a live-action Robin in decades since the infamous 1997 film Batman & Robin. If Andy Muschietti is confirmed for the directing gig, he’ll have the daunting task of bringing the iconic sidekick to life after all these years.

Neither Warner Bros. nor James Gunn have confirmed the news yet.

While we wait to see what Andy Muschietti does as he enters his Batman era, we’ll first see what he can do in the world of DC with The Flash, due out in just a few weeks.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).

The Flash is set for release on June 16th, 2023.
