Edgar Wright refuses to do a Shaun of the Dead series

Edgar Wright isn’t known for sequels, including adaptations for the small screen.

Recently, the filmmaker shut down any possibilities of a new take on Shaun of the Dead, including a proposed television series.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Wright opened up about the offers he’s gotten about more Shaun of the Dead.

He tells the podcast: “There have been some conversations about that, yes. We’ve been quite protective about that. A long time ago, an American company wanted to do a TV series of Shaun of the Dead based on the film. We were like, ‘No!’. Sometimes, when these things come up, we take them very seriously. And some things are things we are still talking about.”

Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead dropped in 2004, which was met with critical and commercial success. The horror zombie would end up grossing $30 million worldwide on a budget of $6.1 million. The industry also loved the film, receiving two nominations at the British Academy Film Awards and even having zombie film icon George A. Romero praise it.

The recently released Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is one of the few times Wright has revisited a project. The anime series is now streaming on Netflix.
