Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards set to direct new Jurassic World film

February 21, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Following David Leitch’s revolving door involvement on Universal’s new installment of Jurassic World, it has been announced that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards is in talks to orchestrate the Dino-mayhem for the July 2, 2025 release.

With Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners steadfastly sticking to their release date, who better to take control of a new Jurassic World movie than a director with giant beasts all over his CV?

Edwards made his name with 2010’s beautifully understated indie-hit Monsters, before that brought him to the attention of the decision makers at Warner Bros., who tasked him with kicking off their Monsterverse with 2014’s Godzilla. It’s safe to say that he has the credentials to reinvigorate the the $6 billion franchise following the muted reception given to 2022’s Dominion.

As previously reported, the franchise’s original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp is returning for the untitled Jurassic film.

Gareth Edwards last movie was 2023’s The Creator, which was critically-acclaimed, but only just managed to recoup its production budget of $80 million at the worldwide box-office.

Let us know whether you think Gareth Edwards is the right director to welcome us back to Jurassic Park by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
