Jason Statham says Layer Cake sequel Viva La Madness will shoot next year

May 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2013, it was revealed that Jason Statham had signed on to replace Daniel Craig in Viva La Madness, a sequel to director Matthew Vaughn’s 2004 film Layer Cake. Since then, things have fallen quiet on the project, but now the Stath has provided an update to Digital Spy, stating that the follow-up will shoot next year.

“JJ Connelly’s written a great book called Viva La Madness, and we’re taking that book and doing something great with it. He’s such a talented writer… the book was incredible. I loved Layer Cake and this is [if anything] better. The chance to work with someone of that calibre, do something back home, it’s the most exciting thing on my plate… We’re doing it next year, and it’s full steam ahead. We’re putting all the finance together, and we’re off and racing.”

Connolly is penning the script for Viva La Madness from his own book, but as yet there’s no word on a potential director.

Statham will next be seen alongside Melissa McCarthy in Paul Feig’s Spy, which opens on June 5th. Read our reviews here and here.
