Joe Manganiello teases Deathstroke movie

April 19, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Joe Manganiello has teased the potential Deathstroke origins movie, discussing the work he has put in so far.

The DC Extended Universe is a strange entity indeed, with the lack of box office success for the likes of Justice League but with the rampant popularity of Wonder Woman, one hardly knows what to make of it all.

One film that fans could potentially look forward to is an origins movie for Deathstroke, starring Joe Manganiello – who made a cameo appearance at the end of Justice League.

Recently sitting down for the Chris Hardwick podcast ID10T, Manganiello spoke about all the hard work he has already put into the film:

“There was talk of an origin movie. I’m not giving news; This was in the [news],” the actor said, alluding to reports of a film directed by The Raid’s Gareth Evans. “I spent six months prior to all those phone calls writing a backstory that was turned into sixteen pages which was turned into a treatment which went into my Skype call with Gareth.”

Regarding the character’s other previously scheduled appearance, Manganiello also spoke to Hardwick about how Deathstroke would have factored into Ben Affleck’s The Batman.

“When I met with Ben Affleck about Batman the meeting we were having was for Deathstroke,” the actor confirms. “This is a real opportunity to figure out who this guy is on the inside. Like what he’s battling with. The best quote unquote — I hate calling them this but you know calling them a villain is understanding where they’re coming from.”

And regarding what appeals to him about Deathstroke, the actor said: “There are villains who are the people who are opposing them but from the inside this is a person who is struggling with all types of things. I think it’s really interesting to tell that kind of a story and tell the truth emotionally of a story like that when you’re talking about a man who lost an eye, was betrayed, lost a son. These different types of aspects.”
