Live-action Superman prequel series Metropolis heading back into redevelopment

May 4, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in January it was announced that DC’s new streaming service DC Universe had given a 13-episode order to Metropolis, a Superman prequel series focusing on the City of Tomorrow prior to the arrival of the Man of Steel.

If you caught the official DC Universe unveiling earlier this week, you would have noticed that Metropolis was absent from the initial line-up of Titans, Swamp Thing, Harley Quinn and Young Justice: Outsiders, and now we know why.

Deadline is reporting that the live-action project – which is being executive produced by Gotham’s John Stephens and Danny Cannon – is heading back into redevelopment and is no longer expected to debut in 2019. It’s the second setback for Metropolis after Fox passed on the opportunity to launch it as a companion series to Gotham.

The original plan for Metropolis was for the show to follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets. However, it remains to be seen if that will change during this redevelopment phase, assuming the project does end up seeing the light of day at all.
