Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Donald Glover says Lando Calrissian is the only role he ever really wanted

May 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Solo: A Star Wars Story set to arrive in cinemas next week, actor Donald Glover has been speaking to CBR about getting the opportunity to portray a young version of the iconic, smooth-talking scoundrel Lando Calrissian, and how much it meant to him to be cast in the role made famous by Billy Dee Williams in the Original Trilogy.

“When I heard they were making these, I told my agent ‘if they’re making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando’ and he was like, ‘I hear you; I don’t like your odds.’ And that was exactly what I needed to hear. I really did audition like it was the only role I wanted in the world, because it really was. I’m just really happy to be a part of this. My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways.”

There’s certainly been a lot of excitement over Glover’s casting as Lando, and early reviews suggest that he delivers in the role. We’ll all get to find out for ourselves next week…
