Ron Howard reveals that there has been talk about a Willow sequel

May 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Ron Howard ventures to the galaxy far, far away this week with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story [read our review here], having taken over directing duties on the Anthology movie following the firing of original helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Solo isn’t Howard’s first venture with Lucasfilm of course; he starred in George Lucas’ 1976 coming-of-age comedy American Graffiti, as well as directing 1988’s Willow. And, in an interview with ComicBook.com, Howard has revealed that there has been some talk of a sequel to the cult fantasy.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow,” said Howard. “We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”

Howard also went on to reveal that Willow served as one of his inspirations on Solo, stating: “I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo.”
