The Walking Dead director says the show “will still be great” without Andrew Lincoln

June 4, 2018 by Gary Collinson

There was some shock news for fans of The Walking Dead last week when it was announced that Andrew Lincoln is set to exit AMC’s zombie drama in its ninth season, with Rick Grimes set to appear in just six episodes.

Big changes are certainly afoot for the show, with Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee) also departing in season nine, and Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon reportedly set to become the main focus on the series moving forward.

In a post on Instagram (which has since been deleted), series director Michael Satrazemis has reflected on Lincoln’s upcoming exit, stating that the show will be “different” going forward, but “it will still be great.”

“Many of us have spent the last 8 yrs of our lives living, working, creating, high fiving, hugging and sometimes even bleeding real blood with Andy,” said Satrazemis. “All to make something special. He is one of the greatest men I’ve ever met. And a friend. The show will miss him as much as you. It will be different but it will still be great. All of us who love making [The Walking Dead] keep creating our asses off and sometimes even bleed for you.”

Are you excited about what the future holds for The Walking Dead post-Rick, or is the show on borrowed time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
