Jared Leto’s Joker to get solo DCEU movie

June 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Warner Bros. putting its planned Harley Quinn and the Joker movie on the backburner in favour of the Margot Robbie-headlined Birds of Prey, it seems that Warner Bros. has decided to bring back Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime for his very own solo movie.

Variety is reporting that Leto will star in and executive produce a Joker solo movie in the DC Extended Universe as Warner Bros. and DC Films looks to “expand on the world created by Suicide Squad and tie into future installments of that property.”

Warner Bros. does have Suicide Squad 2 in the works, with Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) attached to direct. The sequel was expected to begin production later this year but has been pushed back due to Birds of Prey. At this point, it’s unclear whether the plan is for The Joker to follow Suicide Squad 2, or go into production first.

This becomes the second Joker project in development at WB after the non-DCEU origin movie from director Todd Phillips (The Hangover), which has Joaquin Phoenix tapped to star. That was reportedly due to begin filming in May, but news on the project has went quiet over the past few months.
