Justice League concept artist says Zack Snyder did finish his cut of the movie

June 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. and DC Films may be doing everything they can to move forward from Justice League after the DC blockbuster’s disappointing box office performance last year, but it seems there still remains a passionate section of the fanbase hoping that the studio will release a ‘Snyder Cut’ of the superhero team-up.

While it seems very unlikely that we’ll ever get to see Zack Snyder’s original vision for the movie, Justice League concept artist – and frequent DC animation director – Jay Oliva has revealed that Snyder did in fact deliver a completed version of the film before his departure.

“Zack isn’t the kind of director who creates the film in the edit bay,” said Oliva.” It’s all planned out meticulously from beginning to end. That’s how Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were done. All of the scenes Zack envisioned was shot and exists in one form or another. Of course there are still VFX that is unfinished but I never inferred that the film was 99% done. Rather that Zack’s vision was all shot except for a few reshoots planned. It may not be 100% polished but all of the planned scenes were shot and edited into a full timeline.”

There appears to be some speculation / wishful thinking among fans that Warner Bros. could announce the release of The Snyder Cut of Justice League during next months’ DC panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. However, one would have to assume that, given the reception to the film, it isn’t top of Warner’s list of priorities to stump up the necessary finances to complete VFX and post-production work on Snyder’s version for what would presumably  be a rather low-key release outside of hardcore fans.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
