Lucifer showrunners talk move to Netflix as season 4 confirmed as 10 episodes

June 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Lucifer fans received some rather excellent news last week as Netflix announced that has ordered a fourth season of the Vertigo comic book adaptation following the show’s cancellation by Fox back in May.

Speaking to TV Line, co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have confirmed that Netflix has ordered ten new episodes for season four, and they expect to stick to the standard 43 minute running time of the first three seasons. The duo then went on to explain how the Netflix deal came about:

“We found out 10 minutes before the announcement came out [on Friday afternoon]. We were just barely ahead of the curve, because that’s how quickly everything happened,” said Henderson, with Modrovich adding: “My agent called me, and then we got a lovely call from [Warner Bros. TV president] Peter Roth, which was pretty darn funny. I guess he called Tom Ellis first and said something like, ‘Sharpen your horns!'”

“What we have been told, basically, is 1) they love the show, and 2) they loved the fan reaction,” said Henderson when asked what it was that interested Netflix in the show. “They really noticed it. The fans were heard, and that’s the biggest thing that we should convey. They saw the passion of the fans, and apparently a number of people over there just like the show.”

“With social media, the fans now can make a difference, and that is the coolest part of this whole experience,” added Modrovich. “They really feel ownership, like, ‘Hey, we got our show back,’ and I love that.”

Finally, the duo also ruled out the fourth season being billed as the last, with Modrovich teasing that “there is always potential for more.”

Production on the fourth season of Lucifer is expected to get underway in August.
