The Walking Dead’s new showrunner confirms time jump for season 9

June 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having slumped in the ratings over the past couple of years, AMC will be hoping its zombie drama The Walking Dead can find a new lease of life in its upcoming ninth season as the series welcomes a new showrunner in Angela Kang.

Speaking to This Is Insider, Kang has revealed that there will be a time jump going into the new season, as well as promising fans that there are some big stories in store for the show’s female characters.

“We’re playing with time in this season, so we get to kind of jump forward in the story,” said Kang. “We come in [to season nine] on some really fun stuff. I’m really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long lasting as well as servicing all of our wonderful series’ regulars.”

“We’re going to see some really great stories with the women on our show, particularly,” she continued. “And I think for people who are really invested in say Michonne, Maggie, Carol, there’s such great material for them as well as, of course, Rick and Daryl, and those other characters that we love, but for people who are looking for that specifically they will really see some incredible work from our women.”

The Walking Dead will certainly be undergoing some major changes this season, with both Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee) set to leave in the first half of the season, which will premiere on AMC in October.
