James Franco in talks to direct ESPN film Those Guys Have All the Fun

July 28, 2018 by Gary Collinson

According to THR, James Franco is in talks with Focus Features to direct Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN, a feature exploring the birth of the sports network which is based upon the 2011 book by James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales.

Franco scored major critical success with last year’s The Disaster Artist, before facing allegations of sexual misconduct, charges he firmly denied. Those Guys Have All the Fun would mark his first major deal since the allegations.

Franco has several directorial projects incoming, including Zeroville, The Pretenders and The Long Home, while he is also set to return to the small screen for the second season of HBO’s porn industry drama The Deuce and has a role in the Coen Brothers’ Western anthology series-turned-feature The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
