Peter Dinklage to produce and star in Rumpelstiltskin movie

According to Variety, Sony Pictures has tapped Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage to produce and star in an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin.

Rumpelstiltskin tells the story of a miller who lies to the king, stating that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king summons the girl to demonstrate her abilities, locking her in a tower and threatening her with death. She is forced to make a deal with the imp-like creature Rumpelstiltskin, who then demands her first born child as recompense for his assistance.

The script for the movie is being penned by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) and Twilight producer Karen Rosenfelt. The project is in the earliest stages of development, and is not expected to be Dinklage’s next role post-Game of Thrones, although it is a priority for both the actor and the studio.

Dinklage will next be seen in HBO Films’ My Dinner With Herve and Momentum Pictures’ I Think We’re Alone Now, before reprising his role as Tyrion Lannister for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, which is set to arrive in early 2019. He has also recently signed on for the comedy O’Lucky Day, and is reportedly wanted for a role in the big screen adaptation of Spamalot.
