Peyton Reed discusses Ant-Man and the Wasp mid-credits deaths

August 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Marvel Studios made us wait until the mid-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp before showing us how Scott Lang and company were affected by the events of Avengers: Infinity War, with Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne all falling victim to Thanos’ Snap.

Director Peyton Reed has previously talked about how the scene was set up in order to play with audience expectations, and now the filmmaker has been chatting to The Huffington Post about how he and Marvel decided which characters would be turning to dust.

“A big part of it was deciding who was going to be in that scene to begin with, because there was a version of that scene I think where it’s like, ‘OK, maybe Bill Foster is here as well, maybe Ava Starr is here as well,'” said Reed. “We talked about versions with ― and maybe Luis, or whoever, it could’ve been anybody ― but then there’s a certain percentage issue that’s set up obviously in Infinity War that we couldn’t ignore. When we finally landed on the version that you saw, the final version in the movie, it just seemed right.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how Scott gets out of his current predicament, seeing as he’s trapped inside the Quantum Realm – and the only people with any knowledge of that are no longer with us (for the time being, at least). Let us know your theories in the comments below…

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Ant-Man and the Wasp sees Peyton Reed returning to the director’s chair and stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michael Pena (Luis), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), Abby Ryder Fortson (Cassie Lang), Judy Greer (Maggie), Bobby Cannavale (Paxton) and T.I. (Dave), while new additions to the cast include Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo.
