House of Lies’ Ben Schwartz to voice Sonic The Hedgehog

August 9, 2018 by Ricky Church

Paramount has found its voice for its lead hero in the Sonic The Hedgehog feature film. Variety has reported Ben Schwartz (House of Lies) has been cast to portray Sonic in the live-action/animation hybrid. He joins the previously cast Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell in the film from director Jeff Fowler with Deadpool‘s Tim Miller executive producing.

The Sonic The Hedgehog franchise has followed the adventures of a very speedy hedgehog named Sonic on a quest to defeat Doctor Robotnik, an evil scientist who has imprisoned animals in his deadly robots and stolen powerful and magical crystals called Chaos Emeralds in his bid to rule the world.

Schwartz is no stranger to voice acting as he currently voices Dewey Duck in the DuckTales reboot and Leonardo in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He is also known for his role in Parks and Recreation and will be seen in the upcoming comedy Night School with Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish.

While Schwartz will give voice to Sonic, Jim Carrey is set to play his archnemesis Dr. Robotnik while James Marsden will portray Tom Wachowski, a police officer who teams up with Sonic to thwart Robotnik’s evil schemes. Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell’s roles are yet to be revealed.

Sonic The Hedgehog is currently in production in Vancouver and will be released on November 15th, 2019.
