The CW all but giving up on future Supernatural spinoff plans

August 12, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having opted against a series pickup for Wayward Sisters, The CW chief Mark Pedowitz has revealed at the Television Critics Association that while the door isn’t closed completely, future spinoffs from the long-running Supernatural series are highly unlikely.

“If the executive producers want to do one, we’re open to listening to one,” he admitted. “We were very happy with the women who were in the Wayward Sisters spin-off. We have a certain number of slots this year. It just did not get there. Supernatural may be Jensen and Jared – and there may not be a franchise beyond that.”

Wayward Sisters was the second failed Supernatural spinoff after 2014’s Supernatural: Bloodlines. However, in some good news for fans of the series, Pedowitz did go on to state that The CW is happy to keep the main show running for as long as stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are happy to continue.

The fourteenth season of Supernatural is set to get underway on The CW in October.
