Hellboy has been pushed back three months

September 28, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer before we see Hellboy back on the big screen, as Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have announced that it has pushed back the release of the upcoming reboot by three months.

The new film, which is directed by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, Game of Thrones) and stars Stranger Things’ David Harbour in the title role, was originally slated to open on January 11th, but will now release on April 12th 2019.

The release date now puts it in direct competition with Robert Downey Jr.’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, while it also opens a week after fellow comic book movie Shazam!.

January is traditionally one of the year’s “dump months”, whereby distributors drop films that aren’t expected to perform very well for various reasons, so it’s possible this could be a positive sign that the studio has faith in the R-rated reboot.
