Fantastic Four tops the UK box office chart

August 11, 2015 by Gary Collinson

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 7th August to Sunday 9th August 2015…

It may have failed to dethrone Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in the States, but 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four has had a modicum of good new here in the UK, with the reboot shaking off bad reviews to claim top spot with an opening weekend of £2,686,176.

Despite taking first place, the film failed to match its predecessors, with 2005’s Fantastic Four opening with £3.5 million, and 2007’s Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer debuting to £4.1 million.

In addition to Fantastic Four, Joel Edgerton’s directorial debut The Gift also cracked the top ten, opening in fifth place with £584,552, while documentary Amy reentered the chart in its sixth week on its way to becoming the highest-grossing British documentary of all time.
