Benicio Del Toro confirms Star Wars: Episode VIII villain talks

August 14, 2015 by Gary Collinson

We’ve been inundated with news from Star Wars: The Force Awakens over the past couple of days [check out all of our Star Wars coverage here], but now we have a little tidbit on the next instalment of Disney’s Sequel Trilogy, with Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) confirming that he’s in the running to play a new villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

“I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen,” Del Toro tells ET. “It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited. I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it. I saw the original [Star Wars] when it came out and it marked me. I was impressed by the film and by the characters and by the story and the message.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII is to be directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper) and is set for release on May 26th 2017.
