Marvel’s Kevin Feige opens up about the MCU’s casting process

November 8, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Kevin Feige, the head of Marve Studios, has pulled back the curtain on the casting process for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU boasts some of the biggest names in Hollywood, attracting top-tier talent right from the get-go and continuing to bring on high profile performers to bring to life fan favourite characters.

But what goes into picking the right actor for their indivudal film while also thinking about future crossovers? How does the balancing act at Marvel Studios work? Well, Kevin Feige has spoken about this subject in the book titled Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years:

“We always cast for the movie we’re making, but we also have an eye on the future. So when we were casting Chris Pratt, we needed the best Star-Lord, but at the same time, we said, ‘We need somebody who one day might go toe to toe with Robert Downey Jr.’ On the very first day of Avengers: Infinity War there was Robert, Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, and it was pretty amazing! There have been a handful of times in our ten years here at Marvel Studios where we have had to just stop for a second and pinch ourselves. That was one of those moments.”

There’s no question that the MCU is a special operation when it comes to casting and it seems certain that big names will continue to sign up for future movies for many years to come.
