Happy Death Day director to adapt My Best Friend’s Exorcism

November 25, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

THR is reporting that Endeavor Content (Colette, Killing Eve) has snapped up the rights to Grady Hendrix’s horror novel My Best Friend’s Exorcism, tapping Happy Death Day writer-director Christopher Landon to develop the project as a potential directing vehicle.

Described as “Heathers meets Beaches meets The Exorcist“, the 2016 book takes place in 1988 and “follows the relationship of two best friends, Abby and Gretchen. After an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act more and more different, as Abby slowly comes to believe her friend has become demonically possessed. Both girls must soon face a tough question: Is their friendship strong enough to beat the Devil?”

The book is being adapted by screenwriter Jenna Lamia (Awkward, 90210), with Landon serving as producer. His next film Happy Death Day 2U is set for release on February 14th 2019.
