Aquaman star Jason Momoa discusses the differences between Zack Snyder and James Wan

December 5, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Jason Momoa, the star of Aquaman, has talked about the differences in style between Aquaman director James Wan and Zack Snyder.

With Aquaman just a few weeks away from release, Jason Momoa has now played the character of Aquaman in three different films and for two different directors: Zack Snyder and now James Wan. But how different are the two in their approaches?

Well, according to Momoa, they are very different indeed, with the actor telling ComicBook.com: “They’re two different styles completely. I mean, I think that’s just going from any director to another director, they’re very different. The one thing that they are, are definitely visual, visual artists. I mean, like this picture behind you, I knew about this before we even started filming. Zack is constantly doodling. He knows every frame. Definitely two amazing artists. Zack created this character and James just killed the role, also really great at characters and building. There’s a lot of similarities and differences.”

Fans can soon see which approach to Aquaman they prefer when the character’s solo film finally releases. It will be interesting to see how different Wan treats the character on screen compared to Snyder, who debuted the character in the DCEU with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before he joined up with Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Superman in last year’s Justice League.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 21st in North America.
