James Wan, the director of Aquaman, has discussed the film’s 80s tone, explaining that he was influenced by Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, and George Lucas.
While fans around the world are getting ready to see James Wan’s Aquaman, those who have caught the picture already are noting its distinct 80s vibe, with Indiana Jones-esque adventures included.
This is no mistake, of course, as James Wan has revealed to Screen Rant that he was influenced by the filmmakers he grew up in with in the 80s and 90s such as Steven Spielberg:
“I really think just growing up as a child of the ’80s and ’90s; you know – just my love for filmmakers like Lucas and Spielberg and Tim Burton. And so, you know, when I finally get the chance to make my action-adventure film, I think a lot of what those guys had done had rubbed off on me in a big way. And that’s just sort of the spirit that I wanted to make this film with.”
