Kevin Feige confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still happening

January 8, 2019 by Gary Collinson

While we’re starting to piece together some details on Marvel’s Phase Four plans, only two projects have officially been announced by the studio for the next chapter of the MCU in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The Spider-Man sequel is set to swing into cinemas this July, although unfortunately for Guardians fans, the threequel – which was due to begin shooting early this year – hit a major snag last year when some of James Gunn’s old tweets surfaced, resulting in Disney firing him from the movie.

Since then, Marvel has rejigged its plans, and with the studio seemingly in no hurry to bring in another director – and Dave Bautista stating that it’s “on permanent hold” – there has been some speculation that Guardians Vol. 3 may go the way of the planned Inhumans movie.

Well, it turns out that isn’t the case, with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirming to MTV that “Guardians will happen. When, where, how? For a later time.”

If reports are to be believed, Marvel still intends on using James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, although given that the studio already has a number of films gearing up for Phase Four (see The Eternals, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2) and a whole influx of new characters incoming once Disney completes the Fox acquisition, it may well be some time before we see Star-Lord and company back for their third outing.
