M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass tracking $120 million global opening

January 16, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

M. Night Shyamalan’s hotly-anticipated superhero thriller Glass opens in theaters this coming weekend, and while reviews have been less than stellar [read our thoughts here], it doesn’t seem like the critical reception is going to deter audiences from the Unbreakable and Split sequel.

According to tracking estimages, the $20 million budgeted Glass is expected to pull in around $105 million to $120 million this coming weekend, including $60 million from the States across the four-day Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend.

Unbreakable grossed $248.1 million worldwide back in 2000, although Shyamalan and Willis were riding high off the success of 1999’s The Sixth Sense at that point. Split meanwhile earned $278.5 million worldwide in 2017 and proved to be major surprise huge hit for Shyamalan and Universal, having been produced on a budget of just $9 million.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men. This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum.

Glass will see the return of Bruce Willis (David Dunn), Samuel L. Jackson (Elijah Price), Spencer Treat Clark (Joseph Dunn) and Charlayne Woodard (Mrs. Price) from Unbreakable and James McAvoy (Kevin Wendell Crumb) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Casey Cooke) from Split, while Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) also stars. The film is slated to hit cinemas on January 18th.
