Resident Evil TV series in the works at Netflix

January 25, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In addition to the planned feature film reboot, Constantin Film looks set to bring the Resident Evil franchise to the small screen, with the production company teaming up with Netflix for a TV adaptation of the Capcom video game series.

According to Deadline, the plan for the series is “to expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology”, and the series will “explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.” The search is currently underway for a showrunner.

Constantin launched its Resident Evil franchise back in 2002 with director Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich. The series spanned six instalments, grossing $1.2 billion worldwide.

This past December, 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts signed on to helm the reboot, which is expected to begin filming this year and will reportedly take the franchise back to the horror roots of the video game series.
