Michael B. Jordan reportedly returning for Marvel’s Black Panther 2

February 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Back in May of last year a rumour surfaced claiming that Marvel Studios was in talks with Donald Glover and Michael B. Jordan to join the cast of its superhero sequel Black Panther 2.

The rumour was a little dubious as: a) Glover already portrays the character of Aaron Davis in the MCU, having appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home; and b) Jordan’s Black Panther villain Erik Killmonger was killed at the end of the first movie.

Well, it seems there may have been some truth to part of it at least, as Angela Bassett (Ramonda) has revealed to Entertainment Tonight that all of the original Black Panther cast are returning for the sequel, “including Michael B.”

Killmonger’s fate did seem pretty certain at the end of Black Panther, although there are of course many ways that the character could return (Shuri somehow reviving him, Avengers: Endgame-style time travel shenanigans, an appearance in the Ancestral Plane etc.). And of course, it’s also possible that Bassett has been misinformed.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, John Kani as King T’Chaka and Nabiyah Be as Linda.
