Tom Clancy adaptation Without Remorse starring Michael B. Jordan gets 2020 release date

February 5, 2019 by Ricky Church

Michael B. Jordan (Creed) will be gearing up soon as late author Tom Clancy’s character John Clark in Without Remorse, with Paramount setting a release date for the Clancy adaptation for September 18th, 2020. The film comes from Sicario: Day of the Soldado‘s director Stefano Sollima and writer Taylor Sheridan.

John Clark is considered to be Clancy’s second most famous character after Jack Ryan. The character was first introduced in Clancy’s 1988 novel The Cardinal and the Kremlin in a brief appearance before getting a main role in Clear and Present Danger. Clark was a former Navy SEAL and CIA agent who specialized in covert black-ops. Without Remorse was published afterwards as a prequel that detailed Clark’s origins and his time in the Vietnam War as well as waging a one-man war on a drug gang after the death of his girlfriend. In the Clancy novels, Clark went on to become the leader of Rainbow Six, an elite global counterterrorism unit.

On film, Clark has been played by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger alongside Harrison Ford and later by Liev Schreiber in The Sum of All Fears opposite Ben Affleck. It remains to be seen when, or even if, he will appear in Amazon’s series Jack Ryan with John Krasinski.

Paramount is also developing an adaptation of Rainbow Six in the hopes of spawning a Clancy universe and franchise. Rainbow Six has been a project they’ve long attempted to develop after being regarded as one of Clancy’s best books and then creating a franchise of video games based off it. Whether this universe would include Jack Ryan is not known, but it would be more than likely Without Remorse and Jack Ryan will be separate projects.

Jordan will produce Without Remorse alongside Akiva Goldsman, Josh Appelbaum and Corin Nemec.
