Y: The Last Man gets a series order and first look image

After spending over a decade in development in various iterations, Brian K. Vaughan’s acclaimed comic book series Y: The Last Man is finally heading to the screen, with THR reporting that FX has placed a series order for its long-gestating TV adaptation. Here’s a first look image featuring Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, American Animals) as Yorick Brown…

Y: The Last man takes place in a post-apocalyptic Earth where a mysterious plague has wiped out the world’s male chromosomes and Yorick, a young man quick to use humor to deflect from his problems, may well be the lone male survivor.

The series has been developed by Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn), who will serve as executive producers and showrunners, and sees Keoghan joined in the cast by Diane Lane (Justice League), Imogen Poots (Green Room), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water) and Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours).

“Brian and [artist Pia Guerra’s] exploration of a world without men is a favorite for its depth, its humor, its insights and its monkey,” said Croal and Green. “Adapted today it offers us a cracked mirror to look at our own very cracked world. We thank them for their trust — we thank FX for their support — and we thank the casting gods for letting us work with this incredible group of actors.”

“Y: The Last Man is a towering achievement among graphic novel storytelling and it’s been rewarding to work with this outstanding team,” added FX president of original programming Nick Grad. “Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.”

Y: The Last Man is expected to premiere on FX in 2020.
