Blumhouse hires screenwriter for Halloween sequel

February 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After scoring a huge success last year with its Halloween sequel/reboot, it seems that Blumhouse Productions is pushing ahead with its plans for a new instalment in the slasher series (Halloween II again?), with Collider reporting that Scott teems has been hired to write the script.

Teems has previously worked with Blumhouse on the scripts for the Stephen King adaptations Firestarter and The Breathing Method, which have Faith Akin and Scott Derrickson attached to direct respectively, while his other credits include the TV dramas Rectify and Narcos: Mexico. Teems had apparently already written a treatment for the next Halloween, which has been well received at Blumhouse.

Although there’s been no official word on the Halloween sequel, it is expected that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer and Andi Matichak will be reprising their roles from last year’s film, while Jason Blum will once again produce. It’s unclear at this point whether David Gordon Green will return to direct, although he will be credited as executive produce with Danny McBride and John Carpenter.

Green and McBride’s Halloween was a smash hit for Blumhouse and Universal last year, grossing over $250 million from a $10 million budget and dethroning Scream as the highest-grossing slasher movie of all time.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride. In addition to the returning Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) and Nick Castle (Michael Myers), the film stars Judy Greer (War for the Planet of the Apes), Andi Matichak (Orange Is the New Black), Will Patton (Shots Fired), Virginia Gardner (Runaways), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound) and Drew Scheid (Stranger Things).
