Godzilla vs. Kong stomping into cinemas sooner than expected

February 22, 2019 by Matt Rodgers

Things appear to ticking over nicely when it comes to Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Michael Dougherty (Krampus) revealed that Godzilla: King of Monsters was already in the can, months before its May 31st, 2019 release, and now the in-production Godzilla vs. Kong has been moved forward two months from its original release date of May 22nd, 2020.

The Wrap has revealed that as part of Warner Bros. release date shuffle, Godzilla vs. Kong will now stomp into cinemas on March 13th, 2020.

Born from Jordan Vogt-Roberts ridiculously fun Kong: Skull Island, which grossed $566 million worldwide in 2017, the MonsterVerse carries on this summer with the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla ($529 million), titled Godzilla: King of Monsters, before the two titans go head-to-head for an apocalyptic smackdown early next year.

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

Godzilla vs. Kong is being directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest, Blair Witch) and sees Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) and Ziyi Zhang (The Cloverfield Paradox) reprising their roles from the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, while new additions to the MonsterVerse include Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Rebecca Hall (Holmes and Watson), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Shun Oguri (Crows Zero), and Lance Reddick (The Wire).

Godzilla vs Kong will scrap it out in cinemas from March 13th, 2020.
