Trainspotting 2 could be Danny Boyle’s next movie, says “all the four main actors want to come back and do it”

September 7, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With his new film Steve Jobs screening over the weekend at the Telluride Film Festival, director Danny Boyle has revealed to Deadline that the long-gestating sequel to Trainspotting is closer than ever.

Speaking to the site, Boyle said: “All the four main actors want to come back and do it…. Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.”

The sequel to the 1996 hit has been long discussed, but now it looks like the film will finally come to fruition. In fact, it may well be Boyle’s next film depending on the availability of his main actors. Original screenwriter John Hodge is penning the script for the follow-up, which will be based on the 2002 Irvin Welsh novel Porno.

Made for around $2 million, Trainspotting grossed over $72 million at the box office, and starred Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald.
